With his almost thirty years of experience in protecting Native life both socially and economically, Blue Stone Strategy Group has the privilege of welcoming Henry Cagey to our team as a new Senior Strategist. Throughout the years, he has helped shape many federal policies for the Lummi Nation including economic development, health, housing, natural resources, transportation, and education.
Jamie Fullmer, Chairman/CEO of Blue Stone Strategy Group said “Blue Stone appreciates the wisdom and knowledge that Chairman Cagey brings to us, and we believe that it will increase our overall quality of services and also allow us to continue to provide relevant leadership and support to our Tribal clients. We are grateful to have Henry become part of the Blue Stone team”.
Indian Country Today has recently published an article on Blue Stone Strategy Group’s efforts and approach in Native Communities with recognition of Blue Stone’s team members and their opinions on Tribal needs. “Blue Stone does the research, analysis and due diligence needed to assure a Tribe that the paths it takes make sense from long-range governance, business and cultural perspectives.”
Jamie Fullmer, Chairman/CEO of Blue Stone Strategy Group, feels that Blue Stone has gathered a team of “seasoned Tribal leaders with expertise in all fields of Tribal governance and politics, community development, business management and enterprise development” to “help Tribes define their visions, analyze their resources and challenges, and develop real time, workable plans to reach their goals”.
As a Bear Clan Representative to the Oneida Indian Nation’s Men’s Council and Clan Mothers – the Tribe’s governing body that formulates policies for the Oneida Indian Nation, Senior Strategist Brian Patterson brings 20 years of experience in governance to his position as Senior Strategist for Blue Stone Strategy Group.
“With the challenges facing Indian Country Today, Blue Stone is uniquely situated to address the needs of our Tribes with sustainable approaches for future generations of our people by providing approaches and road maps for challenges Tribes face in the 21st Century, while at the same time honoring the cultural legacy of our people,” he said.
Patterson’s experience in Tribal government is deeply rooted in economic development as the Oneida Indian Nation of New York has become an economic powerhouse and clear evidence that self-reliance strengthens sovereignty. Over the years, he has generously shared this knowledge and depth of expertise on a national level in Indian Country by serving on intertribal and governmental organizations.
As Senior Strategist, Patterson is at the helm of ensuring Blue Stone’s Tribal clients succeed in the areas most important to them. “I look forward to advancing the legacy of our indigenous people across the Americas, demonstrating our continued place within on the land on which we continue to occupy,” he said.
Whether he is breaking ground by being the first President of United South and Eastern Tribes to work on developing goals and a strategic plan to unify the organization’s 25 member Tribes, or passing on his historical knowledge and repatriation expertise of Indian arts & crafts as a trustee for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, he believes unification creates a strong foundation for success.
As Tribes continue to grow and prosper, Patterson feels the federal government still shapes its policies on the dated philosophy that they are the guardians of Indian people. He shares his views in the Feb. 16 issue in To This Week from Indian Country Today magazine, and on behalf of USET, he’s up to the task of challenging the status quo of the federal government defining sovereignty and their trust responsibilities for Native people.
Patterson currently co-chairs the Department of Interior (DOI) Tribal Consultation Team, comprised of Tribal leaders and the leadership of agencies within DOI. This team is responsible for the drafting of a department wide Tribal consultation policy and implementation process.
Jamie Fullmer, Chairman/CEO of Blue Stone Strategy Group said that “as Blue Stone Strategy Group continues to focus our attention on providing the highest quality of services, we have the privilege of Brian Patterson joining our team”. Fullmer believes “Brian is an immediate asset to the Blue Stone mission and our focus of assuring our Tribal clients of our commitment to fulfilling the needs of our Native Communities”.
