DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR Bureau of Indian Affairs Solicitation of Proposals for Technical Assistance Funding From the Native American Business Development Institute

AGENCY: Bureau of Indian Affairs, Interior.

This grant may address your needs and move your feasibility studies for your village/community/corporate projects forward.

Blue Stone Strategy Group is committed to strengthening tribal sovereignty and self-sufficiency through effective leadership, profitable business development and productive governmental systems. By developing more efficient and effective governance and corporate systems, tribal governments increase their chances of success at promoting profitable tribal enterprises and creating better services and opportunities for their members.

We are devoted to helping tribes accomplish their short-term and long-term goals, and do not want you to miss this opportunity to build upon your economic development visions in creating a strong tribal economy. For those Tribes that have not been informed, you should take the time to research whether or not the BIA technical assistance grants may be helpful.

The Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development (IEED), through its Native American Business Development Institute (NABDI), is soliciting proposals from federally recognized American Indian tribes for technical assistance funding to hire consultants to perform feasibility studies of economic development opportunities or long-term, strategic, reservation-wide economic development plans. These feasibility studies will empower American Indian tribes and tribal businesses to make informed decisions regarding their economic futures. Feasibility studies may concern the viability of an economic development project or business or the practicality of a technology a tribe may choose to pursue. The IEED will use a competitive evaluation process to select several proposed projects to receive an award.

Deadline: Grant proposals must be submitted on or before August 12, 2011. IEED will not consider grant proposals received after this date.

If you would like more information on this funding opportunity please see the attached federal register notice. We are passing the information along in the hopes that Tribes will use available resources.

Blue Stone Strategy Group welcomes Jack C. Jackson, Jr. to their diverse group of experts as a new Senior Strategist. Jackson currently serves in the 50th Arizona State Legislature as the Senator for Legislative District 2 in Northern Arizona which includes the City of Flagstaff, the Navajo Nation and the tribes of Hopi, Havasupai, Hualapai and San Juan Southern Paiute. From 2003 to 2005, Jack served in the Arizona House of Representatives representing LD 2. His greatest joy was working alongside his father, Senator Jack C. Jackson, Sr., who served in the State Legislature from 1985 to 2004. They were the first father and son to serve together.

“My father was such a great inspiration to me growing up on the Navajo Nation” said Jack Jackson, Jr. “Not only was he a delegate on the Navajo Nation Council and a member of the Arizona Legislature, but he assisted in the formation of the first tribally controlled college on Navajo. My journey is a continuation of his legacy of ensuring tribal communities have all the resources to sustain self-sufficiency.”

Jackson has been dedicated in protecting Native rights by working with the National Congress of American Indians as well as being a member of the Executive Committee of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. He has also sought to promote the general welfare of others by serving on multiple US Presidents’ HIV/AIDS Advisory Councils.

Jackson has expanded his scope of experiences by serving on the Arizona Real Estate Advisory Board, Arizonans for Cultural Development, Arizona League of Conservation Voters, and the Navajo Gaming Enterprise Board (NNGE). He was instrumental in helping the NNGE in establishing the first Navajo Nation casino. The Fire Rock Casino opened on November 19, 2008. This was the first Native American gaming enterprise in the United States ever to be funded solely through tribal monies. NNGE is currently operating/planning four casinos in Arizona and New Mexico.

“We are excited to have Jack Jackson, Jr. join the Blue Stone team” stated Jamie Fullmer, CEO of Blue Stone Strategy Group. “Jack has shown a lifetime of commitment to Indian Country and supporting sovereignty in his leadership roles throughout the years. We believe that Mr. Jackson will be a strong team member in our continued efforts to provide the best of class leadership support for tribes. Our commitment to Indian Country is best shown by our commitment to excellence in building our Blue Stone team. “

Jackson added, “Blue Stone is committed to becoming THE strategy group for Indian Country. I’m humbled and excited to be included in such an illustrious group of women and men. I’m confident my experience and contacts I’ve acquired in over twenty years of service to tribal governments will prove invaluable.”
