Leadership Development

Leadership Training

Progressive Tribal leaders understand and know the importance of relationships, ongoing development of leadership skills, and cultural preservation.

Culture is defined as “a way of doing things” within a system, and is expressed through traditions and behaviors within that system. These behaviors are derived from the Tribal collective’s beliefs, values and purpose for existing, and are the delivery system and structure that achieves one’s objectives and outcomes.

The strength of the culture is directly proportioned to the strength of the structure. The structural strength comes from the influence and direction of the leadership.

People who are skilled at using, advancing, and benefiting from relationships are able to help teams and organizations improve productivity, teamwork, accountability, diversity, safety, individual influence, and profitability.

The first skill in knowing when to manage and leverage relationships is to assess important discussions involving high stakes, strong emotions and varied opinions.  Those that can master these discussions by recognizing any potential danger or conflict of opinions can use a variety of skills that help people stay in honest, candid, dialogue to build stronger and healthier working relationships based on truthful, open conversation.

Our experienced advisors offer Tribal Executive Teams the core behaviors of leadership that build a stronger, more efficient, higher performing business culture.

Case Study

A Tribe from the Northeast came to Blue Stone looking for a solution to the lack of problem solving abilities within its Tribal Council.

We led the group through a dynamic transformation process that started with a session on how to resolve disagreements, by accurately addressing concerns by talking respectfully, candidly and skillfully with someone in a safe way.

We then worked with the leaders to focus their efforts on building acceptance rather than resistance, and to give and receive feedback in a way that enhances relationships and improves results. The next session focused on speaking persuasively, not abrasively, and effectively discussing high-stakes, emotional and controversial topics.

Lastly, we guided the group through teamwork fostering – get the right people involved in a way that ensures better decision-making and guarantees commitment and conviction. The result was a transformed leadership culture, focused on productive discussion and timely decision making.
