Tribal Governance

Effective Leadership

Blue Stone Strategy Group can develop the vision, structure, and overall priority of strategies and tactics that need to be undertaken in order for the Tribe to protect and promote the services of the community.

We have worked with Tribes to assess their Tribal enterprises, programs and opportunities and incorporate them into one and five-year road maps for economic expansion and Tribal stability complete with prioritization of key initiatives and financial considerations.

As Sovereign Nations responsible for economic development, financial solvency and the general welfare of their members, Tribal governments must strike a balance between the immediate needs of the Tribe and investment in long-term sustainability. It is not uncommon for Tribes to be actively involved in managing a number of initiatives and social services aimed at promoting economic growth and community development.

These initiatives may include community services such as health clinics, housing programs, and other social services as well as infrastructure projects, economic development of tribal enterprises, and utilization of the Tribe’s rights and natural resources.

In order to establish a solid foundation for economic development and long-term sustainability, it is important to maximize the effectiveness, efficiency, and interactions between Tribal Councils, Tribal Executives and Tribal Enterprises.

Case Study

One of the largest Tribes in the Northeast was suffering from years of inefficient status quo in terms of government operations. Blue Stone surveyed government employees and leadership and found that years of “doing the minimum to get by” had left members feeling distant from their government and government feeling underpowered by the members.

We went division by division and recommended changes that would make Tribal government relevant to the members again, and motivate government works to improve responsiveness and customer service.

Our team also refocused the health department on the services desired by members, rather than those prescribed by the Department of Health. We made educational systems recommendations aimed at revamping focus to continue education and lifelong learning. General welfare mission recommendations charted a course to focus on holistic healing, and mind, body, and spirit. The result was the creation of a road map for the Tribal government to use now and in the years to come.

WE RESPECT AND EMBRACE THE TRIBAL LEADERSHIP OF INDIAN COUNTRY, AND HELP DEVELOP TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO PROTECT IT.
